Too L; Please Read! EVENTS for May + beyond

It’s warming up and there are so many different ways to get out and ride your Brompton (or *other* bike)! Let’s us quickly get started–

MAY:

15th- THE RIDE OF SILENCE is not fun; that is intentional. This solemn group ride serves to remind one and all that the streets of Philadelphia should not be life-threatening. MEET 6:30 PM , north side of City Hall. More info: https://bicyclecoalition.org/events/ride-of-silence-24/

-17th- BIKE TO WORK (and wherever!) Day • MEET 8 AM (in North, or South, or West Philly) Pick your spot here https://bicyclecoalition.org/events/bike-to-work-wherever-day-24/ (We will be at W. Philly — 33rd & Spruce St., by the Penn Museum and we often see a clump of Bromptons on hand for the ride to City Hall)

-23rd- THE BROMMIE CLINIC (NIGHT SESSION!) • Our fun and free Brompton maintenance clinic usually takes place on Saturday mornings. BUT we’ve had requests for an evening class – and so on Thursday, 23 May, we’ll do one starting at 6:30 PM (till about 8 PM). If you’d like to learn how to keep your Brompton Folder happy, sign up for this hands-on class (via info@trophybikes.com ) . Spaces are limited, so don’t tarry!

-26- Brompton-On-Rail Excursion • One of the many benefits of the Brompton is how well it gets along with planes, trains and automobiles. For our first Brompton Excursion, we shall take a day trip on SEPTA Regional Rail to the charming town of MEDIA, PA (recently named as one of 50 Best U.S. Places to Live). • • • On Sunday, 26 May, we’ll meet at 10:30 AM (inside PHL’s beautiful 30th Street Station) to catch the 10:54 WAWA Local to Media. After disembarking, we’ll take an easy-paced ride, see some classic architecture, visit a lovely park, then visit an even more lovely stationery shop, and finally have our pick of places for a late brunch (even a beer for those who wish)… before we catch a return train to the city.

This is an R-S-V-P event: if we get, let’s say, 6 people signed up ONE WEEK in advance (5/20), the ride is ON! ( sign up with us via info@trophybikes.com )

(As we’re riding the rails, BROMPTONS-ONLY, please… we may have a B or two to loan, contact us soon for that,) OH, and we’ll cover train tickets for the first three Bromptoneers to sign up.

WE DO NOT ORGANIZE THE INCREDIBLE “WEDNESDAY NIGHT RIDES” which is probably why we enjoy these every-other-Wednesday-night affairs so much. Recently, we were swept along amidst more than 250 riders from sunset to dusk.

Go on one, or many–there are almost always a few Bromptons whizzing along on these party-paced rides… Here’s the link: https://www.instagram.com/wednesdaynightrides/

SORRY THIS RAN LONG, but we didn’t want to leave anything out!

Thank you for reading all the way to the bottom … – mcget/trophybikes phila.

OH, WAIT –– just a quick note to save the date of July 3rd, if you can. That’s when we host the BELL LAP, (our Third Annual) ride that has one requirement–unsurprisingly, that your bicycle be fitted with a bell or horn or other approved warning device (NO? Then you may well be asked to call out, “DING DING!” from time to time.) WE SHALL MEET at Fitler Square (23rd + Pine Sts.) to Proclaim Liberty a full day before everybody else, gathering 6:15 and rolling at 6:30. Pace is stately; we’ll pass more than one notable bell and end up close to the start at a nice tavern. Please Note: This event is for all kinds of bikes and it’s FREE – yet there will be some modest prizes!

BROMPTON ELECTRIC!

In our humble op, it’s the most practical e-bike currently available.

WHY? Because the Brompton Electric (like the pedal-powered Bs) comes everywhere with you. You’re not locking a costly e-bike outside. It plays well with planes, trains and automobiles. And because it’s part of Brompton (over a million bikes manufactured), you know it’s made to last and supported with service and repair parts, unlike a lot of the “e-Things” being flogged online.

Come through Trophy for a test fold of the ingenious new Brompton Electric. Then take one for a test ride to discover its most important feature (as depicted above): IT’S FUN.

ASTONISHINGLY LIGHT MEETS QUITE PRACTICAL: TEST THE NEW BROMPTON •P • LINE AT TROPHY!

A new, lighter, simpler 4-speed drivetrain; titanium fork and rear triangle; lots of sneaky little changes that save weight and work better.

The Brompton P Line is truly an Advanced Brompton–and we’ve got one that you really must test ride. Come on through – Wed-Sat, Noon-6 p.m. (appointments also available!)

Philadelphia’s smallest bike shop is now selling and servicing BROMPTON – the world’s best folder bikes – at 133 S. 23rd St., just west of Rittenhouse Row and one minute from the SRT bike path

BROMMIE CLINIC IS BACK!

Our popular hands-on Brompton repair class is coming up. Join us on Sat., Feb. 25, 10:15-11:30-ish for and learn all the basics of keeping your folder running well. This is a small workshop, register now to hold down your spot. We provide all the tools, just bring your Brompton.

REGISTER: info@trophybikes.com

COVID-19 NOTICE: All participants will be required to present proof of vax and recent booster. Thanks for your understanding in this matter of public health.

Put a ring on it! –

There are many ways to think about the cheery little noisemakers attached to our bicycle handlebars:

• A legally-mandated “warning device audible for 300 feet…”

• Something to say ‘hi’ to other cyclists or pedestrians with.

• A way to maybe, just maybe move some pedestrians from the bike lane up ahead.

• A device to make going through dark, spooky tunnels less scary.

• How your bicycle laughs.

We would never presume to say which way is right for you–and that is why we stock the best selection of bike bells in the city, perhaps on the East Coast. Come in and see which bell rings for you.

It’s got a lot of different on it!

This is the new BROMPTON P LINE – successor to the original Superlight series. Like the Superlight, it has a titanium fork and rear triangle. BUT it also has a new 4-speed drivetrain, lighter wheels, and numerous other improvements. It’s LIGHT and it doesn’t give up a speck of what we love about Bromptons. Their factory in West London built a lot of these, but not exactly too many. Come by the shop* for a test ride and do not tarry if you want a Performance Brompton before it snows. Thank you.

  • Trophy Bikes is now at 133 S. 23rd St. just west of Rittenhouse Square (we’re now BROMPTON-ONLY) and we’re open Wed-Sat., noon to 6 p.m.

BROMPTONS UNDER BROAD STREET!

This Saturday, 11 August, we invite Brompton bike riders to join us in a “top-down” tour of the Philly Free Streets day.  Philly Free Streets, now in its 3rd year, will turn Broad Street, from City Hall to Erie Avenue, into a car-free zone from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

BUBS4

NOTE: We will meet, RAIN or SHINE! • If it’s like, BIBLICAL RAIN, we may just take the subway to Erie Avenue and hang out, then subway back and retreat to La Colombe or even FERGIES PUB. So, please bring a jacket and be flexible; that’s the beauty of riding a Brompton, the world’s best folder bicycle.

Our event will take advantage of the Brompton’s unique fold to take SEPTA up to the north end of Open Streets.  We will meet at La Colombe Coffee Penn Square, on the SW  corner of City Hall at 10 a.m. sharp. First, a quick lap around City Hall, then down into a cool, rumbling Broad Street subway car, which will rocket us to Broad and Erie in 16 minutes!

We’ll unfold and pedal back down 100% car-free North Broad Street to City Hall (4.6 miles, easy pace, lots of stops for photos) …and maybe a post-ride beverage at nearby Fergie’s Pub.

The ride is FREE (please bring $2.50 or your SEPTA KEY for the subway trip), but because of space considerations–Brompton bikes only, please.   • •   RSVP to info@trophybikes.com with BUBS in the subject line to help us know how many Brompton riders to expect. THANKS!

PS–SAVE THE DATE: Sept. 9th THE BROMPTON BURST– BROMPTON RACING IN BEAUTIFUL DOYLESTOWN PA. We will ride a special BROMPTON CAR on SEPTA to this event. Go to:  http://buckscountyclassic.com/races/brompton  for all the details!
